Everything hates surprises

 They put some brain cells on a computer chip and taught it to play Doom, a video game, by affecting brain cells either positively (predictions are correct or work) or negatively (predictions are wrong and fail.)

The affecting is the part that matters. 

If everything is information, then surprise is a universal active inference.
